Information about Design Check Orders
What has to be checked?
Following buildings must be checked for structural safety by an officially recognized expert (design check engineer):
- all residential buildings with more than 2 separate apartment units or starting from medium height
- all special structures such as department stores, industrial buildings, administration buildings and civil engineering structures

Cost of the design check
The design check (Four Eye concept) is a central demand of the legislator for construction safety. Renumeration for the design check has been regulated by the legislator in the SV-VO (regulation regarding officially recognized experts according to the regional construction regulations).

Assessment – and clearinghouse of the officially recognized authorized experts for the design check (bvs – NRW)
In case of building projects with countable costs over Eur 100.000,- the bvs-NRW acts as assessment and clearinghouse. The bvs-NRW receives the remuneration requested by the authorized expert and evaluates the design check efforts for the building project (fee zone ..etc). In case of offers from several authorized experts the remuneration will be determined by the bvs- NRW. In case the contract is awarded, bvs NRW assumes settlement on behalf of the hired authorized expert.
